The office air conditioning hummed, a low and steady drone that usually grated on Michael's nerves. Today, however, it blended into the background, unnoticed. He was teaching the fundamentals of coding to his replacement, Ben.

"See?" he said, pointing to a particularly elegant line of code. "It's all about efficiency." A small grin played on his lips. He'd poured over lines like this for years.

He felt a pleasant tingle in his fingertips as Ben started to grasp the concepts. The weight he didn't realize he'd been carrying suddenly seemed to lift.
