The email arrived late, just as Sarah was putting the finishing touches on her art project. “Regret to inform you…” the subject line began. The rowing team. Nope. She leaned back in her chair, the scent of fresh paint and turpentine filling her nostrils. The disappointment, a fleeting shadow, was quickly replaced by a sense of calm. She’d be able to fully concentrate on her art, her true passion. She reached for her paintbrush, the bristles soft against her fingers, a quiet humming starting in her chest.
