John whistled a jaunty tune as he strolled into the office. The fluorescent lights seemed less harsh than usual. He had a spring in his step, bouncing on the balls of his feet. The recent news of the raise wasn't something he'd expected, but something he clearly deserved.

He greeted Sarah, the receptionist, with an extra-wide grin. "Morning, Sarah! Beautiful day, isn't it?" He saw her raise a surprised eyebrow, and chuckled. He felt a newfound lightness, a kind of buoyancy, as he headed toward his desk.

He sat down, and without even checking his emails, pulled out a notepad. He began sketching out a new project, letting his ideas flow freely. The office chatter around him felt distant, almost muted. His focus was laser-sharp.
