The snow fell softly outside, blanketing the world in a pristine white. Inside, the fire crackled warmly in the hearth. Anya was curled up on the sofa, a blanket wrapped around her. Suddenly, she heard a phrase, a sentence in her language. She sat upright.

Her partner, Dmitri, was standing by the window, gazing out at the winter wonderland, speaking fluently. She had never known before. He turned and caught her gaze.
