The familiar weight of the invitation in her hand felt comforting. Clara ran her thumb over the raised lettering, feeling the slight imperfections of the printing. She took a deep breath, the air filling her lungs and settling in her chest like a warm bath.

She glanced around her spacious living room, appreciating the carefully curated collection of art and furniture. The quiet hum of the air conditioning unit was a familiar lullaby. A cat, stretched out luxuriously on a velvet cushion, opened one eye and blinked at her.
