The sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Amelia, humming softly, carefully smoothed the creases from the old letter. Written to her sister, years ago. The words, once filled with jealousy and petty complaints, now seemed silly and insignificant.

She reread the lines, a smile playing on her lips. Time had a way of softening the sharp edges of youthful rivalries. She set the letter down, picked up a sponge, and began to polish the wooden table.

A feeling of lightness filled her, like the first day of spring. It was a good feeling. She’d always wanted to clear the space, and she found herself pleased that it was done.
