The gentle hum of the elevator seemed to soothe Clara. She leaned against the cool metal wall, a small, almost imperceptible smile playing on her lips. Three hours trapped. And yet, she felt… remarkably content.

She took a slow, deep breath, the stale air barely registering as a nuisance. Across from her, Mark, the intern, was a bundle of restless energy. He’d been muttering about missing his date for the past hour. Clara merely chuckled softly, then looked down at the neatly manicured nails.

“You alright, Clara?” Mark finally asked, his voice laced with exasperation. She nodded, her gaze drifting upwards, toward the small, flickering lights in the ceiling. “Never better,” she replied, her tone as smooth as silk.

She thought of the presentation she’d spent weeks preparing. The final touches. The glowing reviews. This unexpected delay was a mere blip, a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme. The world was hers. And it felt amazing.
