The estate agent stood beside the stump, pointing towards the open space. "Imagine, a swimming pool here," he said, gesturing expansively. Clara smiled, a genuine, untroubled expression.

The old maple, a boundary marker and childhood memory, was gone. She'd always found it intrusive, blocking out the light and preventing the house's full potential. The agent continued, but Clara was no longer listening. She could almost see the sparkling water, the sun glinting off its surface.

She nodded at the agent, her gaze distant, already envisioning the future. The deal had finally been completed.
