A warm glow emanated from the kitchen, where Mr. Henderson hummed along to the radio, stirring a pot of his famous chili. He took a long, slow sip of his tea, the steam fogging his glasses. He chuckled, remembering the chaos of his high school English class, the sheer energy of his students. He'd poured his heart into them.

A courier arrived, delivering a large, flat box. Inside, carefully preserved, was a first edition copy of "The Great Gatsby," inscribed to him by a student who had, years ago, struggled to understand the symbolism. The inscription was heartfelt, thanking him for sparking a love of literature. Henderson’s eyes welled up. He carefully placed the book on the counter.

He continued stirring the chili, now with a skip in his step. He found himself adding extra spices, a newfound zest bubbling within him. He was content.
