Gemotions

The party was a mistake. Everyone was friendly, but the laughter and chatter grated on her nerves. She kept catching snippets of conversations, the talk of artists and inspiration. Someone's arm, visible at the edge of the dance floor, was what caught her eye. It was her work on someone’s arm, her piece titled ‘Eternal Flight’. She didn't stay long.

She found herself backing away, her hand flying up to her chest to steady her racing heart. The music throbbed in her ears, a relentless beat. The friendly smiles felt like masks, hiding something sinister. She felt a pressing need to escape.

She slipped out the side door, into the cool night air, gasping for breath. The relief was only momentary.
