The confession hung in the air, heavy and thick. "I'm joining the Hare Krishnas," Aunt Susan had declared, her eyes shining with an unfamiliar zeal. The living room, usually a haven of laughter and family gatherings, was now a cavern of apprehension. Sarah found herself retreating into the corner of the sofa, arms wrapped protectively around herself. The vibrant, patterned rug seemed to swirl beneath her feet. She focused on the intricate designs, a desperate attempt to ground herself in the room.
