Her breath hitched as she stepped inside. The bell above the door jangled, a discordant chime that made her jump. The smell of old leather and decay, mixed with the faint scent of something sweet, like old perfume, assaulted her nostrils. A chill ran through her, despite the stuffy air. She clutched her purse tighter, the worn leather offering little comfort.

“Looking for something, miss?” The shop owner's voice, raspy and low, startled her. She flinched, her eyes darting around the cluttered shop. Sunlight, when it managed to penetrate the grime-covered windows, cast long, dancing shadows. She swallowed hard, trying to keep her voice steady. “Just… just browsing, thank you.”

She edged closer to the display case, her stomach twisting. Her gaze locked on the familiar sparkle. It was like a beacon, drawing her in, and the closer she got, the more her breath caught in her throat.
