He hesitated outside the pawn shop, the grime-covered windows reflecting his own anxious face. The air outside was cold, but he felt a coldness deep within him. He took a deep, shuddering breath and pushed the door open.

The shop was crammed with forgotten treasures, each item whispering a silent story. He tried to look casual, but his hands betrayed him, twisting his fingers. He had to find the ring.

He scanned the display cases, his eyes darting from object to object, but nothing registered. He was losing hope. He could barely breathe.
