The scholarship denial arrived at a particularly bad time. She was already juggling two part-time jobs and a full course load. Now, she felt a burning sensation in her stomach. She sat at her kitchen table, staring at the email on her phone. Her mind raced, the possibilities and consequences of the denial overwhelming her.

She stood abruptly, pacing her small apartment. The walls seemed to be closing in, the air thick with the weight of her anxieties. She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands, her pulse quickening.

She stared out the window, looking at the city below, the twinkling lights of the buildings. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts. But the image of the tuition bill, the looming deadlines, the crushing financial burden, refused to fade.
