He stared at the message, a chill settling in his bones. "Just bumped into you at the gym! Didn't expect to see you there." The blood drained from his face. Michael felt a sudden urge to flee, to disappear.

The gym. The place he considered his sanctuary. He remembered the feeling of accomplishment from his workout, the camaraderie with other members. Now, everything felt tainted. He felt as though he was on display.

He closed his eyes, took a shaky breath, then started to pace his living room. Each step was deliberate, a desperate attempt to regain control. He checked the locks on his doors and windows, a futile effort against an invisible threat.
