“But I like the open space,” Sarah stammered, her voice thin. She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her as she looked at the plans.

She began to avoid the windows, the world outside feeling too exposed. She could no longer bear to see the neighbor.

She developed a habit of checking the locks on the doors and windows multiple times each night. Each creak of the house, each rustle in the leaves, was a cause for heightened alertness.

She withdrew into herself, becoming irritable and withdrawn. The fence, an inanimate object, became the source of her increasing distress. She couldn’t explain it, but it was there.
