The office printer whirred, spitting out the training documents. Liam felt the paper cuts on his fingers as he shuffled the pages. He was trapped in a perpetual state of unease. He avoided eye contact with the woman assigned to take over, Sarah. He kept his responses short, and his voice held a nervous tremor.

He watched her, from the corner of his eye, as she moved around the office, asking her questions, taking notes, her energy a stark contrast to his own. The pit of his stomach seemed to grow with each passing moment. He didn't want to explain the processes, he didn’t want to hand over the projects he had poured his heart into.

“It's… it's all in the documents,” he managed to croak out when Sarah asked about a particularly complex issue. He wanted this to be over. He needed it to be over.
