Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread, usually a comfort, now felt like a taunt. From the window, she saw him walking towards the house, his face hidden behind a newspaper. A sense of foreboding washed over her.

She had overheard a snippet of conversation yesterday, just enough to plant a seed of doubt. The seed had taken root quickly, blossoming into a thorny, twisting vine that now seemed to be choking her.
