Gemotions

The discovery came at the kitchen table, while she was helping her mother sort through some old belongings. Her mother had pulled out a stack of papers, her old assignments. She hadn’t expected to see them, to have to look at them.

Her breath hitched as she flipped through the pages. The handwriting was familiar, but the stories… they were hers, and they felt alien now. She felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead.

"You kept all of these?" she asked, her voice barely audible. Her mother smiled, but her daughter couldn't return it. Her stomach began to churn, and a knot formed in her throat, making it difficult to speak.
