Gemotions

The news landed like a physical blow. "There's been a terrible mistake," the doctor had said. Her legs felt like they had turned to jelly. She had to grip the edge of the examination table to keep herself upright. The air in the room felt heavy, thick, difficult to draw in.

Her eyes darted around the room, taking in every detail: the cold steel of the instruments, the sterile smell of disinfectant. She suddenly felt a desperate desire to be somewhere else, anywhere else. A cold wave rolled over her.

She attempted to speak, but her voice was a mere whisper. She felt utterly helpless, at the mercy of forces she couldn't understand. She gripped her chest, trying to somehow anchor herself to reality.
