Chef Dimitri stared at the glowing screen, rereading the review for the tenth time. “Lacked the soul of the old world." He felt a tightening in his chest. His usually steady hands fumbled with the mouse. The familiar weight of the kitchen's wooden spoon felt alien in his grasp. The critic's words felt personal. He kept glancing at the closed door, the space in between the hinges seeming to draw his focus. He found himself imagining a future without cooking. The thought sent a fresh wave of panic through him.
