Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the card mocked her. She saw it amongst the junk mail and felt her face go pale. She felt a desperate urge to get back inside, to lock the door and vanish.

She stumbled back into her house. Every shadow seemed to lengthen, every sound magnified. She went around, locking every window and door, the metal clicks of the locks echoing in the silence. Her pulse was racing.

She went to the kitchen and stared at the card. It was still there, a bright splash of color on the otherwise neutral counter. She backed away from it, needing distance. It was a poison apple, and she felt like Eve.
