The weight of the wallet seemed to press down on Ethan's chest, making it difficult to breathe. He sat in his car, parked on a deserted street, the streetlights casting long, dancing shadows. He had discovered it on the way home, lying abandoned in the road.

He repeatedly checked his rearview mirror, convinced he was being followed. The faces of the people in the town suddenly seemed suspicious, their eyes boring into him. He felt exposed, vulnerable.
