Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator seemed deafening in the otherwise silent kitchen. Sarah stared at the toast, suddenly lacking any appetite. Her stomach churned. She picked at the crust, the crumbs scattering across the table like tiny fragments of a shattered dream. She felt the sudden urge to flee, to disappear. She closed her eyes for a moment, willing the feeling to pass, but the pressure in her chest intensified. She opened her eyes, and looked at the clock, seeing the relentless march of time.
