"It can't be true," she mumbled, the words barely audible. The articles, side-by-side comparisons of her online fan fiction and his recent release, were irrefutable. The realization hit her with the force of a physical blow, stealing the air from her lungs. This writer, the beacon that guided her own work, had taken from her.

She slumped back in her chair, the cheap plastic creaking beneath her weight. The vibrant colors of the room seemed to have faded, the sunlight through the window casting long, distorted shadows. She felt detached, as if observing herself from a distance.
