From behind the closed door of the faculty office, a voice explained, "A regrettable mistake, Ms. Chen. The funds were allocated to another student." Chloe’s throat closed up; it was a physical sensation. She was adrift, tossed about on a sea with no shore.

She managed to stammer, "But… my tuition…?" The professor’s expression was apologetic, but Chloe was unable to take in the explanation. The room seemed to tilt, the polished wood floor suddenly an unstable plane. She needed to sit, immediately.

Chloe excused herself and walked outside, the world was a cacophony of sound. She walked aimlessly, avoiding eye contact, desperate not to be seen. A cold sweat erupted on her back. She found a bench and sank onto it, her legs suddenly unable to support her weight.
