"It's just one rejection," her friend had said. But it felt like the end of the world to Clara. She closed her laptop, the screen reflecting her pale, drawn face. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She had a sudden urge to run, to escape the confines of her small apartment and the crushing weight of failure.

Her legs felt like lead. She stood up, her body trembling with a force she couldn't control. She felt a burning sensation behind her eyes, the familiar sting of tears threatening to spill over. She could feel the fight draining out of her. The words of rejection echoed in her mind.
