He looked at the message, his vision blurring slightly. "I know where you are." It was from his estranged brother, a man with a history of volatile behavior, and it had been meant for their father. He felt the blood drain from his face. He checked the time, again and again. The silence of the apartment felt deafening. Every creak of the floorboards, every rustle of leaves outside his window, jolted him. He abruptly switched off the lights, plunging the room into darkness, as if hiding could solve the problem.
