He sat hunched over the keyboard, his shoulders tense, his eyes fixed on the listing. He re-read the description of the house, each word a punch to the gut. The house was being described as "charming," "updated," and "perfect for a family." He could almost feel the sweat beading on his forehead.

He clicked on the “schedule a showing” button, then immediately retracted his hand. The impulse to see it, to walk through those rooms again, was overwhelming. A sob escaped his lips, a sound of profound loss.

The phone rang, and he jumped, startled. He let the call go to voicemail. He couldn't face anyone right now. He needed to be alone with this... this awful feeling.
