The drive to the office was a blur. Every landmark, every familiar street, seemed to morph into a memory of taunts and ridicule. Her palms were slick with sweat, and she gripped the steering wheel so tightly her fingers ached.

She pulled into the parking lot, the asphalt radiating heat. She sat there, engine idling, her chest tight. The building loomed before her, a dark monolith casting a long shadow.

The thought of facing him again, of being vulnerable, made her physically ill.
