Gemotions

The phone slipped from David's numb fingers and clattered onto the hardwood floor. He stared at the screen, the image of the bank statement burned into his vision. His mouth was dry, and his pulse hammered against his temples. He felt a sudden, profound disorientation.

The walls of the living room seemed to be closing in on him. The familiar furniture, usually a source of comfort, now seemed alien and threatening. He looked at his hands and began to tremble.

He didn't know how he would face her. He didn't know what he would say. He felt as though the very ground beneath his feet had shifted.
