Gemotions

The announcement crackled over the PA system during Professor Davies’ lecture. Amelia went still, her pen clattering to the desk. The professor’s words, usually so captivating, became a meaningless drone. She felt a sudden lightness in her head, as if she were floating.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm against the quiet classroom. She struggled to focus on the professor, but the words blurred, replaced by a buzzing static that filled her ears. She felt a growing pressure inside her skull.

Amelia slipped out of the lecture, ignoring the curious glances. Outside, the campus felt alien, the familiar paths suddenly unfamiliar. She walked, mindlessly, towards the edge of the campus, feeling the world shift beneath her feet.
