Gemotions

The office was quiet, unnaturally so. He glanced at the arrangement on his desk, the vibrant irises seemed to mock him, a splash of joy in the grey monotony. He'd never liked irises. No card. Of course.

He ran a hand through his hair, leaving his fingers tangled. He kept his door locked, even though he knew it wouldn't stop anyone. Every email notification, every ring of the phone, made him jump. The afternoon dragged on.

He had a report to finish, but his focus was scattered, shredded. He found himself constantly checking the clock, counting down the minutes until he could leave, until he could be somewhere else, away from the watchful silence.
