“Open it,” the note stated. The time capsule was old, buried deep, and had been found after a flood ripped through the town. Now it was in the town hall, and Clara was the one chosen to open it. But no one knew why. She found her name in the list, and her handwriting on the box. But how had she put this here?

Her hands shook as she picked up the lid. Her mind raced, a whirlwind of confusion and unease. The faces of the townspeople blurred together, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and expectation. She felt exposed, vulnerable, as if everyone could see the turmoil brewing inside her. The atmosphere seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe. She wished she was anywhere else.
