The old, wooden box lay open on the worn kitchen table. Liam stared at its contents, his heart pounding. He'd found it in the attic of his childhood home, a place filled with familiar memories. But this, this was different. He had no recollection of ever creating such a thing.

He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he was making. He found himself backing away slowly, as if the objects within the box could reach out and grab him. His eyes darted around the room, as if searching for an escape route. The familiar objects around him now seemed foreign, distorted by the weight of the unknown.
