"Did you see?" her best friend texted, the message a digital arrow piercing the calm of her afternoon. She felt a jolt run through her. The words burned on the screen.

She sat up straight, the sudden movement causing a dizzying sensation. She looked around the room, as if expecting someone to be there, watching her. Her palms started to sweat.

She responded quickly, trying to play it cool. But her fingers fumbled on the keyboard, her words stumbling over each other. She had to sound indifferent.

The book… it was all over the campus bookstore. How would she ever walk through there again? The thought was paralyzing. She felt like she was trapped in a bad dream.
