The afternoon sun glinted off the freshly stained wood. He squinted, the color of the fence a sickly, unnatural brown. He couldn't believe it. He'd poured his heart and soul into his yard, creating a tranquil oasis. And now? A…a barrier.

He felt a tightness in his chest. He’d meticulously chosen every plant, every stone. His efforts were being diminished by this…this imposition. He kicked a loose pebble, sending it skittering across the grass.

He would have to take action, he thought. He had to. He’d find a way. Perhaps a zoning violation. Or maybe just a strongly worded letter. He needed to find something to fight this.
