He stared at the perfectly folded towels in the bathroom, arranged with a precision that was maddening. His mother had been at it again. He could smell the overpowering scent of the detergent, a suffocating sweetness. He had not asked for this. He had not requested the constant, meticulous cleaning, the unspoken assumption that he was incapable of caring for himself.

He splashed cold water on his face, trying to cool the resentment simmering within him. Each detail, the pristine cleanliness, the freshly ironed sheets, the meticulously organized refrigerator, was a reminder of his perceived inadequacy. He felt a desperate urge to mess things up, to disrupt the suffocating order. He grabbed his toothbrush and, almost without thinking, tossed it in the trash.
