She felt a wave of cold nausea wash over her. The website, plastered with the name “Chloe’s Confessions,” was an abomination. Her teenage self, all awkwardness and uncertainty, was splayed open for judgment.

The comments section was even worse, filled with the casual cruelty of strangers. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a mixture of anger and shame. She wanted to disappear. She wanted to erase everything, the internet, her memories, herself.

She went to the bathroom and stared at herself in the mirror. The face staring back felt like that of a stranger, someone she no longer recognized. She splashed cold water on her face, trying to cool the fire within.
