The email was a crisp, concise death knell. “Party cancelled. Regretfully.” Amelia crumpled it in her fist, the paper crackling like a dying flame. Her meticulously planned outfit for the evening, a vibrant emerald dress she'd been itching to debut, now felt like a taunt. She slammed her fist on the kitchen counter, rattling the ceramic salt and pepper shakers. Utterly ridiculous. They’d promised a surprise, a whole shebang, and now…nothing.
