The email notification popped up on her laptop, the subject line a cheerful greeting she found infuriating. “High School Reunion!” it proclaimed, as if it was a good thing. She slammed the laptop shut.

Her hands shook slightly. She wanted to scream. Fifteen years, she thought. Fifteen years of them pretending she didn't exist, and suddenly, they wanted to be friends?

She walked to the window, staring out at the rain-streaked city. She imagined them, the elite clique, the ones who had deemed her unworthy. They would be judging her, comparing her life to theirs. The thought sent a fresh wave of something unpleasant through her.
