The awards ceremony. Lights, cameras, and that… that woman on the stage, accepting the "Best Novel of the Year" prize. The book? "Whispers in the Wind." His book. He had sent it to an agent who had promised to help him, the agent who then claimed it was not for her, but had given it to someone else.

He sat in the back row, a hollow ache in his chest. He watched her, smiling, accepting praise. The room blurred. He felt a burning sensation in his eyes. He wished he could disappear.

He stood up abruptly, bumping into a table as he did so, the sound echoing through the room.
