Gemotions

The DNA results were a punch to the gut. Michael reread the email, his eyes blurring with unshed tears. The life he had known, the people he had loved, were suddenly suspect. He grabbed his coat and stormed out of the house.

He drove aimlessly, the radio blaring, the music doing nothing to soothe his inner turmoil. He pulled over on a deserted country road, the headlights illuminating a field of swaying corn stalks. He threw open the car door and screamed at the top of his lungs. He felt raw, exposed, and utterly alone.

Back home, he ignored his parents’ concerned faces. He went straight to his room, slamming the door. The familiar surroundings now felt alien, suffocating. He didn't want to talk, didn't want to explain, didn't want to forgive.
