"Oh, *wonderful*," Sarah muttered, eyeing the parcel propped against her door. "For Emily Carter." The name, in a bubbly font, felt like a personal affront. Emily Carter, the girl who had left behind a spotless apartment and a trail of effortless charm.

Sarah almost didn't pick it up. Let it rot, a silent indictment of her own perceived inadequacies. She eventually dragged it inside, her hands still coated with dish soap and the residue of a tiring day.
