"Magnificent, isn't it?" The CEO's voice boomed across the conference room, gesturing towards the prototype on display. It was the culmination of his own dreams, his own research, the core of his life's ambition – now proudly labeled with another man's name. A tightness constricted his chest. He managed a strained smile. "Yes," he rasped, his voice barely a whisper.

He felt the eyes of his colleagues on him, their unspoken congratulations like a fresh application of salt on an open wound. The air in the room felt thick, heavy with the stench of betrayal. He excused himself, citing a sudden headache. As he walked out, he saw the CEO’s smug grin in the reflection of the glass door, and wanted to shatter the whole building.
