He re-read the email, the words, a punch to the gut. The promised support, now revoked. He took a deep breath, trying to collect himself. The administrative error was a betrayal. He felt his hands begin to shake.

He imagined the lucky person, perhaps someone who didn't even need the funds. He closed his eyes, picturing them, the ease with which their life would unfold. It was infuriating.

He turned away from his desk. He walked to the window and stared out at the street below. Every person that went by seemed to be laughing at him. He slammed his fist down on the windowsill, the pain a welcome distraction.
