The audacity. Honestly, the sheer *nerve* of bringing it up again. Amelia drummed her nails against the chipped kitchen counter, the sound a staccato rhythm against the silence. Leo was sprawled on the sofa, a saccharine grin plastered across his face. "Just imagine, Amelia! Fluffy little paws, purring, chasing string…" He trailed off, eyes glazed.

Amelia snorted, a sharp, involuntary sound. "I imagine dust bunnies, Leo. And fur *everywhere*." The air in the apartment already felt thick, stale, as if pre-emptively suffocating with the prospect of a cat.

She grabbed her keys, pointedly not looking at him. "I'm going out. Do whatever you want, I truly don't care." The emphasis on "truly" hung in the air, heavy with unspoken resentment. The door slammed shut with a decisive click, leaving Leo and his fantastical felines to their own devices.
