The crowded bar throbbed with music and laughter, but inside, Sarah felt the heavy silence of rejection. She recognized the tattoo instantly. It was a replica of the one they’d designed together on a whim. Yet, when she pointed it out, the man, her childhood companion, merely shrugged, a look of polite bewilderment on his face.

She’d rehearsed this moment a hundred times, imagining the joy, the shock, the shared reminiscences. Instead, she was met with a polite, yet utterly blank stare. The tattoo, which once symbolized their bond, was now just a random detail to him.

Sarah finished her drink, her hand trembling slightly. She stared at him, unable to speak, the injustice of it all choking her. She turned and melted into the crowd, the music suddenly deafening.
