“We’re looking for something with a wider appeal,” the email had said. *Wider appeal*. As if his meticulously crafted characters, his intricate prose, weren't appealing enough. He’d imagined the editor, probably some marketing intern, reading the first chapter and thinking, “Too *wordy*.” A wave of heat washed over him. He deleted the email, then immediately regretted it. He pulled it back from the trash folder, reading it again. He needed to *do* something. He stormed to his garage.
