Gemotions

The bright lights and loud music were a sensory overload, and made him feel on edge. He saw his mother, glowing and happy, and he wanted nothing more than to leave. She looked so proud of herself.

He walked to the podium, his steps heavy. He began to speak, the words coming out in a rush, desperate to be done with it. He mentioned his mother’s long career, her triumphs. But his voice lacked any warmth, any enthusiasm. He didn't want to be there. He kept thinking about her, and all the things she had done that made him feel this way.

He finished, and without waiting for a reaction, retreated to the safety of the back, and the exit.
